In the recent Word of the Week, Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen announced the the Expansion Pass DLC for Cities: Skylines 2 was going to be delayed until 2024. The first round of DLC is planned to release in Q1 2024. The second round of DLC in the Expansion Pass is planned to release in Q2 2024.

Hallikainen highlighted the importance of continuing to improve the performance and patching bugs before releasing DLC. In the same announcement, the cadence of patches is going to slow down as they are working on more difficult bugs. So far they have 100 bugs confirmed that need to be fixed with roughly 100 more needing to be reproduced before fixing. A graphical representation of what the Cities: Skylines 2 Expansion Pass roadmap is provided below.

Colossal Order focusing on improving the performance of the game shows they care for the consumer instead of continuing with the original roadmap. Cities: Skylines 2, while fun to play, has had a rough first month with optimization and bug issues. There was some speculation across the web that the game was released in the state it was because of financial concerns. Personally, the game is playable but it did have some moments of poor performance.

It goes without mention that the modding platform they are implementing for Cities: Skylines 2 will also be delayed. For some this will be a huge disappointment. There is currently no mention of a console release date. I would think an optimistic date would be sometime in Q1 2024 to line up with the release of the first round of DLC.
