Double Eleven’s Contract Ends

In a May 13 post on the Prison Architect 2 news page, Paradox Interactive announced that Double Eleven was no longer going to be working on Prison Architect 2. In the post, Paradox mentioned that Double Eleven’s contractual obligations for the development of Prison Architect 2 were met, which apparently was just to get the game to pass certification on all platforms. Contractual discussions broke down and both parties are separating amicably.

After 9 years together, Double Eleven is leaving Prison Architect. Double Eleven has been with us since the console port, led the development of the game on all platforms, and has been working on Prison Architect 2 over the last few years. With the sequel passing certification on all platforms, the contract was fulfilled. However, we could not find a commercial agreement that worked for both parties moving forward and mutually agreed to part ways.

Kokku Enters the Fray

Kokku is a Brazilian co-development company that have worked on various AAA projects. Their contributions range from art to debugging/optimization. A few recent games they’ve worked in include:

Kokku’s involvement in the Prison Architect 2 development process started back in the fall of 2023. Based on their previous experience of improving various engines, most notably the CryEngine, and performing bug fixes on various games, the yet to be released Prison Architect 2 may be in good hands. Kokku seems like a more skilled developer than Double Eleven based on the projects and type of work they list in their respective portfolios. Hopefully they can meet the deadline of releasing the game in September 2024.
