Following some customer feedback where some people really detested the car experience system implemented in the new Forza Motorsport, Turn 10 announced an upcoming change to the car experience system that I honestly feel is just a waste of efforts. To provide some background, in Forza Motorsport (2023), instead of buying parts for your car with credits like every other game in the franchise, they tried to innovate and have the individual cars themselves have an experience level upon which you would unlock new parts for your car. This angered a lot of people at launch, but I personally thought the idea was neat. I was of the opinion that upgrading the car didn’t make you a better racer. Instead, depending on your difficulty settings, having more upgraded parts on your car can compensate for your terrible driving (i.e., inability to follow the racing line properly).

The changes they are implementing will be the second change to the car experience mechanic since the game launched roughly 3 months ago. The first change was to lower the car level requirement to unlock all of the parts. That, apparently, wasn’t good enough and so now the system is being further modified so that all parts are available from car experience level 1. Additionally, you can now purchase the car upgrades indirectly using credits by converting them into car upgrade points.

There are a few issues I have with this coming change:

  1. They turned the car upgrade system into a freemium mobile game experience. You can either A) grind out the car upgrade points (i.e. in-game premium currency), or B) spend your “money” to fast track the system.
  2. It’s the same thing as the rest of the franchise, but now with an extra (unnecessary step) in the middle.

If they don’t decide to change their direction before the update, this change is really bad. It is apparent they want players to use this new system, but, in general, the players don’t want it (or like it). Instead of it turning into some trivial, freemium-esque system like they have planned, I would prefer if they just removed the car experience system altogether and replaced it with the credits-based upgrade system instead from all their other games. Sure they’d probably have to balance the credit rewards to make the system not pointless, but credits have little use in the game as is outside of buying new cars.
